Mrs. Weda Evelyn Holmes, age 87 of Vernon, AL, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016.

Mrs. Holmes was born November 16, 1928, in Cullman, AL, to the late Orie and Offie Benefield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vernon and was secretary for Western Auto, a family business that she and her husband started together. In 2014, Mrs. Holmes was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Vernon Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Delton Holmes.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:00 from the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home with Clyde Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Lamar Memory Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 1-3 prior to the service.

Survivors include two sons, Garry L. (Linda) Holmes of Jacksonville, FL and Danny (Diane) Holmes of Vernon, AL; one brother, Dotson (Bettie Ann) Benefield of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Kelly (Aaron) Tucker, Kerri (Clay) Rasbury, Zella (John) Callahan, and Charles Holmes; six great-grandchildren, Claire Collins Rasbury, Logan Yarbrough, Sarah May, Catherine May, Katie Holmes, and Mandy Holmes; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lilli and Zoey.
