Obituary

Winnie Aileen (Lene) Smith Godsey, age 87 of Middleburg, FL passed away January 2, 2021 at Acosta-Rua Center Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL.

Winnie (Lene) was born in Lamar County, AL, on August 16, 1933, to the late David Walter Smith and the late Mary Estella Jones Smith.  She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Mavis Hedgecock, Ruth (Jo) Merchant, and Lela Ray (Monk) Christian, and one brother, Oscar Lee (Boy) Smith.

She leaves behind to cherish many happy memories, two daughters, Sarah Ann Dawson, of Middleburg, FL, and Debra Smith, of  Jacksonville, FL; one son, Anthony (Tony) Godsey, of San Antonio, TX ,four  grandchildren, Chris Smith and wife Samantha, of Saint Augustine, FL, Valerie Godsey, Vanessa Godsey and husband Tony Villarreal, of  San Antonio, TX, and Sean Barfield, of Annadale, VA, 12 great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "Winnie The Pooh", and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday January 16,2021 at 1:00 at Wofford Cemetery in Sulligent Alabama. If the weather does not permit the service will be moved to the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home

A Memorial Service will be held in Jacksonville, FL at a later date.

The family would like to send an abundance of heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Acosta-Rua Center Community Hospice and staff for taking such great care of Winnie (Lene) and the compassion given to her family during this difficult time.
